One of the issues that divide the country these days is ABORTION. One group says pregnant mothers have the right to abort their baby/fetus for any reason while a contending group quotes Bible scriptures to establish that a fetus is a physical person from the moment of conception with an attendant right to life that can ONLY be surpassed by the mother’s right to survive.
The Bible is clear on this issue so there’s a confrontation between the Word of God and a group of people who don’t like what it says. The truth is, God is the One who said that physical life begins at conception and caused the Holy Spirit to have it written down by a few selected prophets. I’m not reporting my OPINION on this but clearly stated concepts from a Book that claims to have been written by God. Of course, we’ve all been created with the right to choose for ourselves and many people have chosen to disagree with this particular Book.
During the runup to the election in 2016, one of the candidates seeking to be our next President famously stated that it was time for Christians to “change their religious beliefs” on the subject of abortion. How does that happen? Are we supposed to pressure God into changing His views on acceptable conduct? Or should we Christians just ignore what God says as the other folks do? Or are we supposed to be like she is, a Christian in name only who rejects the authority of the Bible over the issues of life?
Some politicians talk easily about changing one’s religious views. But God isn’t a politician and His Word isn’t political. It’s also not a Democrat or Republican publication nor is it a compilation of “politically correct” sayings that need to be periodically updated. No, it’s a compilation of “absolutely correct” principles that NEVER change. People can change all they want to but according to His Word, God NEVER changes and that’s why it’s impossible for TRUE Christians to “change their religious beliefs.” That’s a silly idea that shows a shallowness of understanding of a Christian ethic.
What’s the point of Christians changing their religious views anyway? People who want abortions are getting them, the law of the land is presently on their side. What’s the point of demanding that Christians “change their religious views?”
The truth is, they want Christians to change because our continued stand for life brings pressure on them to return to the Word of God. It’s a pressure they feel uncomfortable with. They want us to change because they’re tired of having their unbiblical conduct publicly revealed and discussed and challenged. And, they want us to change so that finally Christians would agree with them that the Bible is wrong or out of date, so they won’t feel uncomfortable anymore.
For Christians, this isn’t a political issue. It’s a Word of God issue and if the Word says that some particular conduct is unrighteous, then the biblical Christian won’t/can’t endorse it. And in this case, the issue involves loss of life. By the Bible’s definition, more than 60 million little people have been killed in a willful departure from God’s instructions. Fortunately, Jesus has ALREADY paid for that wrong conduct, but the people who’ve been involved in it need to RECEIVE their forgiveness, not because I say so but because the Word of God says it.
God never changes and neither does real Truth. That’s the way it is whether folks believe it or not.
