Thanksgiving is a Celebration of Our Liberty

By Donald R. May

Thanksgiving is a fitting time to reflect on the blessings and goodness of our nation’s heritage, our history, and our people. Many have sacrificed their treasure and their blood that we might live in freedom.

Thanksgiving is a celebration of our Liberty as much as it is a time for us to be thankful for our great abundance. It is a time to recall that our Constitution preserves our right to work without a monarch, dictator, or other despot taking that which we have earned.

Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful that we are free people who can take care of our families and do that which we believe will be of the greatest benefit for our families and us.

Without Liberty, there is no abundance. Without Liberty, the quality of life and goods deteriorates. Only a free people can produce and maintain an abundant prosperity and a civilized culture. Without Liberty, common sense, common virtue, and common decency would quickly become uncommon.

None realized better the value of Liberty than our Founding Fathers and those who labored and fought with them to gain our freedom from a monarchy.

In 1789, when our Bill of Rights was written, our Revolutionary War was still a very recent history. Liberty and the fact that our new government had been established to protect and serve the people was still a new concept. The people did not serve the government. The government served the people and left them otherwise alone.

Thanksgiving is one of our nation’s major Holy Days. Thanksgiving is a day set aside to give thanks to our Creator, who provides to us and His entire Creation food and the other necessities of life.

Thanksgiving is a day set apart on which we give thanks to God.

Thanksgiving is not the day on which we express thanks to our government, its bureaucrats, or its elected rulers.

Thanksgiving is a day when we reflect on the blessings and goodness of our nation’s heritage, history, and people. Thanksgiving is a day when we reject the rewriting of our nation’s history and our Constitution by the Left.

Thanksgiving is a day when we celebrate our Liberty and the great abundance our Liberty allows us to produce. As the Left hates freedom and prosperity, Tax Day is the major holiday of thanksgiving for the Progressive Left.

Thanksgiving is a day when we give thanks for the civilized culture, common sense, common virtue, and common decency that thrive because of the freedoms our Constitution provides. Each of these is hated, not practiced, and demonized by the Left.

Thanksgiving is a day on which we give thanks to our Founding Fathers and for their Judeo-Christian values that resulted in our nation and its Constitution. If it were not for our Judeo-Christian values and our Constitution, the Left would long ago have transformed our nation into a tyrannical Socialist Latrine.

The Liberty that We the People hold dear, and for which we are deeply thankful to God, is hated and despised by the Progressive Left.

We are thankful to God that He has granted us yet sufficient time to defend, preserve, and restore our Liberty and our Constitution.
